Who Are Fear, and Loathing in Vegas?

"Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas" is a Japanese electronicore band known for their fusion of metalcore, electronic music, and autotuned vocals. They blend genres like they are making a damn smoothie of genres, a Smoothenre, if you will. I digress from my horrible jokes! These friends formed back in 2008 (why is this 17 years ago) and pretty much-gained popularity for their high-energy performances and unique sound that blends heavy breakdowns with electronic dance elements.

Fun Fact: Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas has had several of their songs featured in anime. Hunter x Hunter, Gokukoku no Brynhildr, Parasyte -the maxim-, and more!

the internet, lol

Even with FALILV having formed in 2008, their first full release didn’t come until 2010 with their release of “Dance & Scream”, which really established their sound that we would come to expect. From here we had All That We Have Now (2012), then PHASE 2 (2014), then Feeling of Unity (2015), then New Sunrise (2017), then HYPERTOUGHNESS (2019), and finally Cocoon for the Golden Future (2022). Their discography (lengthy) showcases a consistent evolution, blending electronic and metalcore elements, and their collaborations with various anime series have expanded their reach to a broader audience.

What To Expect Sonically From This Rec

"Feeling of Unity" is one of Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas's most well-rounded and dynamic albums, delivering a high-energy fusion of metalcore, electronic dance music (EDM), autotuned clean vocals, and intense screams. Expect some of these key elements to be felt/seen:

  1. Fast-Paced Electronicore – The album is packed with up-tempo tracks that blend heavy guitar riffs with deep, guttural, and “hefty” electronic beats, creating an electrifying soundscape that shakes you a bit.

  2. Autotuned, High-Pitched Clean Vocals & Aggressive Screams – The band's signature vocal style shines through, with So (clean vocals) using heavily processed autotune melodies and Minami (unclean vocals) delivering harsh, distorted screams. The dichotomy is so sick!

  3. Breakdowns & Danceable Drops – Expect crushing metalcore breakdowns followed by EDM-style drops that feel like a mix of a mosh pit and a rave.

  4. Synth-Driven Hooks & Melodic Choruses – Despite the heaviness, the album features catchy, almost pop-like choruses backed by synth arpeggios, making songs anthemic and memorable.

  5. Chaotic Yet Structured – The compositions feel unpredictable at times, shifting from electronic sections to brutal breakdowns and back to melodic moments within a single track.

Unity Is Definitely With Us In This Room

Reaching No. 2 on the Japanese charts, this album (“Feeling of Unity”) highlighted their ability to blend melodic elements with their established electronicore sound. This record is really just so high energy and makes me so amped up to work on whatever I am working on!
