Welcome To Finetuned!

NEWsletter who dis?

WELCOMES FRIENDS!

Honestly, this is the furthest thing from finetuned (AT LEAST FOR NOW, maybe ever?) but alas, here we are!

My goal with this newsletter is to be a place where I can explore and grow my greatest passion - music! I want to create a place that people can trust when it comes to finding new and interesting (and old and interesting!) music. My sort of mission statement here is: listen to music, share said music, talk about the artists and labels, mention the fun shows and merch, dive into genres (hint hint) - rinse and repeat.

This is probably going to go through a few iterations with both design, structure and flow, and maybe otherwise. I hope you stick around and find some new tunes!

FIRST REC EVER is for my hyper-pop lovers, or for those who like to experiment…

going…going…GONE! by hemlocke springs

hemlocke springs - going…going…GONE! This album sort of popped (heh, this pun was intended) up into my feeds on socials and such and took me by surprise. Honestly, in the last year and a half or so, I’ve explored genres like dream pop, shoegaze, and acid rock to name a few, so this sort of feels like a natural fit into my expanding tastes. What this subgenre has done is led me to fall even more in love with synthesizers (which led to a rabbit hole of modular synthesis, oh goodness pray for my wallet). All of this to say - this album is the ultimate mood lifter sonically, but lyrically explorative all in the same vein. hemlocke is a pretty funky, eclectic personality and the story of the young-adult phase to adulthood can be seen in their overall aesthetic, thematically on the album art, but also musically in this release with sounds that sort of feel nostalgic in some way.

album rating: 8/10 - Fave song: girlfriend

And there we are! 💥BOOM 💥 newsletter one? Check ✅
I’m anticipating the length of Finetuned to be somewhat variable. Some weeks will be more of a deep dive into a genre where I chat through some of the history of it, but also where I’ll make more than one rec. And then some weeks will be like this one here! Just the one album rec. If you all have some ideas for this and certain types of newsletters you’d want from me, please let me know.

But with that… I’ll be seeing ya next week, friends.
