Ghosty N' Toasty

Bummer summer in the winter

Hello, you beautiful souls! This week is a warm - near and dear - listen for me. This band is a group of friends (like together, but like also friends of mine 👋 nay, clay, and kev). This week is all about Ghosty. This is a group that fits into no bounds, but also maybe some confines that they set up for one another. Let’s strap in for some dream pop that tickles that alternative muscle! Welcome, Finetuners.

Who Are Ghosty?

They are a lovely group of people who are genuine, honest, and expressive in so many ways. Ghosty is comprised of some buds who met in college (Clay, Nayara, Kevin, Charlie), did various music-related projects over the years, and lived life. Coming from varied upbringings and life experiences has been the catalyst that I believe informs their sound, their maturity as a group, and their diversity of approach.

Looking to the future and to their community for healing, Ghosty has known some tragedy and been able to work through this to deliver an incredible release of music that is so authentic and emotive. They vibe hard and are so diverse across their tunes, but I think that comes from them honing in the sound they want and the sounds they hear as they write. I love you, Ghosty! ♥️

What To Expect Sonically

Okay, so are you a fan of FLETCHER? Sawyer? In a like super odd way, I almost feel like their sound is a slamming together of Paramore, Taylor Swift, and The Band Camino. Ghosty leans into synth for layers, clean vocals with loads of clarity, guitar that carries the melody well, all with a strong backbeat to keep tempo and energy where it’s needed. Their sound is one that feels synonymous with being full of emotion and then sort of outwardly expressing that in “heavier” moments perfectly juxtaposed with clear vocal diction that drives the lyrics home.

The lyrics of this record are loaded with pain, and trauma - a retrospective of life growing up and comparing it to where life is now. Existence is tough, community makes it less tough. I think that this record from my buds here is a beautiful depiction of how the harsher realities of life don’t define the future and that having a group of people who support you and care - can carry the harder times through to the calm, patient, and laughter-filled moments.

No Longer Bummed

This record is one that you can cry to, scream with, and rock out on. This truly feels like such a proper, mature sound that leaves me so excited for their future and for the tunes we will see and hear in the coming years. Support these beautiful souls - because they deserve it and because their music deserves to be expressed, heard, and appreciated.
