Mind The Gap

Not the tube, but the tunes

Hey there Finetuners - welcome back! This week we are talking about a pop artist that has blown up in the last 3-4 years. That’s right friends, we are talking about Del Water Gap. No, this is not about the actual Delaware Water Gap, we talk about music here, ya silly!

SIKE! In an effort to make you laugh, I’ve included the Delaware Water Gap…

Before we jump in…

I wanted to ask you all again this week for some of your preferences. Do you guys have some specific genres you’d want covered more in-depth? Certain musical elements you want to know more on? I am all ears, my friends! Feel free to reply to the newsletter or DM me on Twitter with any of this feedback. 🤘

Who Is Behind Del Water Gap?

Del Water Gap is the solo project of Holden Jaffe. Holden is a mastermind of production and songwriting and I really believe you’ll hear that once you jam their tunes. I like the sound of their music because it genuinely feels approachable in that the sounds are not something that’s revolutionary, with the construction being predictable as well (but in a good way, I promise).

Holden is fairly open and honest in his song development. I feel as though the vulnerability can be felt in the full mix as a complete piece, but also in the individualized layers. The sentiment of the lyrics is portrayed well in the vocal performance as well as the soundscape created to back the lyrics and vox up. As you all know about me, I very much so appreciate music that is vulnerable and open - as transparent as if I know that artist personally and they are letting us in. Music is about community and connection after all!

What To Expect - Who Are They Similar To?

This is definitely a group for those of you who are fans of COIN, Briston Maroney, Bleachers, The Japanese House, Hippo Campus, Maggie Rogers, and a few others. The soundscape is something that you can prob feel replications of in tunes from older Bleachers and the ethereal vibes felt in The Japanese House releases, more specifically.

The sound mimics that of clean vocal tones with lots of layers, synth undertones, and raw, honest lyrics in approach. With this, you can feel similar dynamics to the groups above in that there are slower more ballad-like songs but then you’ll get tossed into an absolute bop + vibe that may make you want to drive with the windows down singing along.

Mind The Gap ⤵️

Much tune, many engage. These are tunes from an accomplished musician who is passionate about what he produces and releases! Fun fact - Maggie Rogers was in this band for about 6 months at one point! So that should honestly be reason enough for you to check out these incredible tunes.
