Six Feet Underground

Omg we have something special this week, Finetuners! I’ve not felt this pumped about a music release in some time. The band we are talking about this week is mirabelle.! This group scratches my nostalgia itch, has incredible production, and makes the vibes just right. I really cannot hype this up more! Let’s get stuck in, homies.

Who Are mirabelle.?

mirabelle. are a heavy pop-punk band from Paris that formed back in 2021. Their music is heavily inspired by the American pop-punk scene of the early 2010s (I’ll tell you some similar groups below), blending elements of folk-punk, hardcore, and pop. Known for addressing themes ranging from joyful and happy to dark and super somber, their style carries a mix of irreverence and emotional depth, often described as tinged with "joie de vivre" despite some fairly nihilistic undertones.

Their debut EP, Permanent Damage, was released in 2023, followed by their first full-length album, Welcome to My Funeral, in 2024 (our rec today). This album explores themes of death and loss with their characteristic sound and do-it-yourself ethos. The group is comprised of Dory, Pierre, Matt, and Gianni.

What To Expect Sonically

They are like if Bilmuri and Four Year Strong had a child and then that child was best friends with State Champs. They are super pop-punk throughout every track with the classic half-time post-chrous. This then gives us the cliche post-hardcore breakdowns in a few tracks, as well. Honestly, their tunes really have me keeping their shit on repeat. If you get down with catchy choruses and wicked fast and groovy guitar chords that all get layered with ballad-like vocals - then jam these dudes!

Their sound feels nostalgic for me because this sort of music was predominantly what I listened to back in the early 2010s, and their sound is a sort of modern take on this and I freaken love it. They are also quite dynamic, my friends! Not every song is a beat you down pop-punk/post-hardcore tune, they have some more ballad-like moments that create a dynamic that doesn’t feel “same-y” throughout your listen. Banjo? Yep. Sax? Sure. Breakdowns? Of course.

Welcome To The Funeral Of Your Neck

This record just popped up on my radar and I couldn’t be more happy. This has moments to lock arms with your buds, sing the choruses, and then separate to mosh. Piano to hit the feels, drums to carry the tempo, and vocals that feel quintessential and akin to what you’d expect from bands similar. Please just do yourself a favor and jam!
