They Tried To Stop the Metal
But they failed... ROSARY wins
This Isn’t a Tenacious D Edition
I’m sorry.. this week isn’t about Tenacious D, even as much as the subject would tell you so. I will prob write something about the D in a later edition! I digress…
NAY… this week is about a blackened hardcore band from Memphis with a few of the members being buddies of mine ( 👋 clay & joel). To put it simply, they RIP. I think their sound is one that makes me understand Britney Spears a little bit better maybe.. cause I do indeed want to scream and shout and let it all out. I mean something like this ⬇️ ⬇️
Introducing —> ROSARY
Jumping straight into it… I introduce to you, ROSARY (Instagram here). They are in the early stages of their career, but they already have so much sophistication to their production, a level of detail that makes me think of producers like Drew Fulk and maybe even a splash of like Will Putney. There seems to be no stone unturned in the execution and the thoughtfulness applied to each layer.
Who Are They Similar To?
If you are a fan of Knocked Loose, Glass Cloud (throwback), VCTMS, or even things like Tectose, then you’ll like their tunes. They have the heavy riffs that lean djenty but scream death metal and beatdown which just means their tunes feel violent. Given some of their influences in the band, I am super excited to see some of the directions they take in their upcoming releases (of which I am patiently awaiting). I could even see Matt Honeycutt rip some vox over their shit if I’m entirely honest. I even hear elements of Sworn In in their tunes too!
They are early enough, which is exciting for us, that they only have three tracks released currently. With that said, let’s hop into the rec friends…
The Rec - A Little Different For This One
Normally I rec an album - but for this one I’ll chat about each track and give individual ratings. I think that this is best considering they only have three songs out right now, and I wanna chat about each of em.
Entropia. High energy to start off the “EP”, Prototype Anitchrist. The opening riff f***ing rips and the snare drum feels like a gut punch in the best way. The baseline calls back to Kublai Khan. Good grief this song is easy to headbang to… get ready for them there sloooowwwww grinding breakdowns.
song rating - 9.7/10
Millstone. I think off the jump, the riffs really really stick out to me. The guitar just tickles that metal fanboy side of my brain, good lort. The drums DIG deep just behind them. Pinch harmonics a plenty. Ghost notes on the drums add so much for me. Blegh? There is blegh.
song rating - 9.5/10
The Mark. Microsoft. IYKYK. Good god this one is heavy but also feels like a comedown from the previous two songs. I think its a necessary ending track to the chaos and disordered heaviness from the previous two. It is arguably HEAVIER than the prior two honestly, but still I feel it is and was intended to be that comedown. The ending felt a little long as a fadeout, but I did still enjoy the vibe it was providing.
song rating - 8.5/10
