Underdressed At The Symphony
R&B meets alternative that hugs country
I Believe It Was Faye-t
Hey there friends! I hope we are having a great week. This week we are talking about a passionate musician who has a pop alt sound that is similar to those previously featured in Finetuned… with a bit of a splash into country. This week is all about Faye Webster.
Just before we jump into talking bout Faye, are there any artists you guys would love for me to speak to here? I am definitely all ears - I wanna know my friends! Regardless, lets chat through Faye, some of their releases and do a bit of a dive. Below is the vibe I sort of feel listening to Faye…
Webster, Faye Webster
When it comes to Faye’s music it gives this sort of y’all-ternative vibe that calls back to dream pop-ish vibes? I think there is this certain ethereal nature to her music but a sense of “back-home” that sort of tucks you in nicely and securely. This is an unassuming sound, but an intriguing one all in the same that I believe can appeal to everyone. There are releases that lack umph, and pressure, but overall I’d definitely recommend her tunes.
I see her tunes being ones I can go to when I want to just have something on in the background for chill vibes, or even something that I’d like to sing and dance to. With that said, her most recent release isn’t my favorite of the bunch. She has been around for over 10 years, and the sound of her tunes has developed into what I mentioned above as appealing, but could also be called agreeable, especially in the context of the most recent release.
Record Breakdown and Recs ⬇️
Let’s chat about these records! While I have much love for Faye and the tunes she creates, this most recent release definitely left me wanting more and lacked a lot of umph or prowess that I’d like to hear. Lets speak more specifically here…
Faye Webster - Underdressed At The Symphony. This record on the outside feels like its a bit more quirky than it actually plays out to be. With that said, it still has a similar vibe to the above feelings, and if you flip it on, you can probably experience it well and will probably enjoy it. It does have one of my favorite tracks of hers, compared against her discography! Lego Ring is fairly shoegazy which is nice, as I do love me some shoegaze - and it features Lil Yachty which is hilarious, but doesn’t feel out of place.
album rating - 7.3/10, fave track - But Not Kiss
Faye Webster - I Know I’m Funny haha. This record has all of the sounds that I want out of Faye’s music. Its emotional, in the ways the lyrics would probably demand, its captivating. This release is definitely a winner in my book, and I’d jam most all of these time and again. My fave track here is just a smooth ride.
album rating - 8.6/10, fave track - Sometimes
Faye Webster - Atlanta Millionaires Club. Arguably Faye’s best release! This feels a lot more country in the delayed higher-pitched guitar. Where its diverse and feels different is the mix and production. It has a lot of elements that I love - horns, violin/strings, more memorably lead guitar lines, and more. Let this record ride, vibe out, enjoy the groove.
album rating - 9.3/10, fave track -Kingston
